I Recommend: Ang Lihim Ni Antonio

August 18, 2008

Ang Lihim Ni Antonio (Antonio’s Secret) is the most intriguing gay-themed Filipino Indie film that i have watched recently. Intriguing, because to me:antonio.jpg

1. The cinematic attack is schizophrenic (the movie seemed to be confused if it wanted to be light or heavy).

2. The story is cliche in every sense of the word (until the very disturbing ending).

3. The script is real life but it becomes a bit dragging at some parts.

And yet the film compels you to give it a second-look, it interests you and makes most of the earlier gay-themed Indie films poorly made and haphazardly done.

It is the outstanding ensemble cast performance and the beautiful setting and cinematography that becomes the movies salvation. All the actors in the cast were perfectly placed and chosen based on how they really fit into the characters, and mind you, most of them are virtually unknown names; so one can see that the producers/director aimed this to be one of the movies strongest points as I found out that rigorous screening (why, even the Philippines’ Indie Film Prince, Coco Martin did not make the cut) and workshops were done prior to the actual making of the film.

iPhone 3G comes to the Philippines

August 17, 2008

Picture 6.jpg

I know it’s inevitable that the much hyped about so-called-holy-grail of mobile technology, iPhone (now with 3G) would come to the country. And why not? We have so easily set the standards in text messaging by which the world’s text-messaging industry shall be judged! (Yes, we have made text-messaging an industry on its own, no wonder Smart, Globe and Sun refuse to lower down the text messaging fee let alone make it totally free.)

If You Forget Me

August 14, 2008

A few days ago i was scavenging over my trove of writings past and saw a print of a poem that i have loved for the longest time. I have almost forgotten about it and the moment i read it, all the emotions that it brought me when i first read it suddenly gushed in my memory. The poem was Pablo Neruda’s If You Forget Me.

This is my poem (well, not in the sense that it is I who have penned it but in the sense that i have owned its thought and its message since i first heard it approximately ten (10) years ago. Ten years ago when i was still looking, desperate and alone. Pablo Neruda is a master of beautifully painful lyric poetry and he is my god in free verse poetry. All my poems are mere shadows of his poetry and i am a proud child of his art.
