Free Perfume Sample+Hanger from Christina Aguilera

March 6, 2009

Picture 1.png

Talk about a non-traditional and inventive promotion for Christina Aguilera’s new perfume line to empower its slogan: Sometimes, its all you need to wear; and you get tens of thousands of quality clothes hangers with free perfume samples and a branded Christina Aguilera label on each one, scattered in various public locations all over the country.

The challenge was to create a stirring campaign for the perfume line in Israel and encourage people to buy the product/s. The effort was very, very successful in Israel reaching over 1.5 million customers and giving the company the highest ever sales of a new perfume in the country. The perfume was sold out in less than a week.

But that can’t be done in the Philippines; hangers with free perfume samples in the streets of the Makati/Ortigas business districts will all be gone faster than you can spell Christina Aguilera! How much more if its done in any part of Manila, imagine the pandemonium!

KitKat:The First Worldwide Website Where Nothing Happens

March 2, 2009

KiKat Website.png

Such a refreshing and smart idea from the ad agency of KitKat to have come up with this website; keeping true to their slogan: Have a Break. When the website loads, you’ll notice that instead of numbers, random words like entertainment, kids, briefings, family, things, job (and other words that comprises a busy and hurried life) loads; after which, you are lead to a page that features nothing, just a white page with no link, no content apart from their statement, logo, slogan and the a statement in fine print that reads:

“If you detect something happening here it’s probably a bug and we’ll try to fix it. Please report any incident to thefirstworldwidewebsitewerenothinghappens@thefirstworldwidewebsitewere nothinghappens.com. When confirmed you’ll be rewarded.”

Give In: Dunkin’ Donuts Dubai Ad Campaign

February 19, 2009

Now why can’t our local (Philippines) Dunkin’ Donuts hire somebody who can re-energize the brand and make it as edgy, hip and fun as their Dubai counterpart did (scroll down to see)? I mean, hey, it’s not like Philippine advertising is outdated – we’ve produced great ad campaigns that have competed in international ad competitions; and it’s not like the market is not ready for a more “forward” thinking campaign. C’mon, the Philippine audience has been rapidly adapting to world trends and we have this innate gift of being “always updated”, as in hindi tayo nagpapahuli! I think now is THE time to get more snazzy and cool in your ad campaigns Dunkin’; great and youthful and vibrant donut brands have been cropping all over the place like Go Nuts Donuts! and the American brand Krispy Kreme.

Could it be that our seemingly “old fashioned” culture is pinning us down, or more so, pinning us at a stand still? Or to put it more directly, could it be that the “old fashioned and reserved” perception that Dunkin’ Donuts has of its market, hindering them to take a modern approach to their campaigns? I know that mainly, the local “donut industry” has been marketed to kids and the family and that their campaigns are addressed to them, but the market is growing, your market is growing, and i think its high time to keep up with the competition.

Compare a local Dunkin’ Donuts ad (sorry i can’t find any images) that you can remember with that of DD Dubai (done by Publinet Dubai) that i have found, and tell me what you think.

The Incredible Photography of Gavin Bond

February 19, 2009

It brings me great joy when i see breathtaking and well-thought-of photography; photography that showcases not just the technical skills of the photographer but the creative concept and meaning that brings about the actual visual piece. Such is the photography of Gavin Bond.

Gavin Bond do not just take photographs, he takes them exquisitely, with colors that are vivid and exuberant and with a creative eye that elevates the regular portrait photography into something that tells a story and shows the quirky and fun side of the subject he captures. He is never afraid to experiment with his subjects and to bring-out and henceforth capture their essence which are normally concealed by the blinding lights of celebrity.

Taken from the Gavin Bond Biography:

Gavin Bond is man behind the lens for much of the world’s best fashion reportage. A graduate of London infamous St Martin’s Lane, he spent much of the ’90s backstage at the fashion world’s biggest runway shows and hottest after parties.

His portfolio bursts with spur of the moment, never to be captured again images of some of the world’s most recognised models and celebrities. He recently undertook a reportage project backstage for the Victoria’s Secret Lingerie Show, known as the world’s most flamboyant and colourful catwalk event. The images were subsequently published in GQ to critical acclaim.

Bond’s magic is in showing the flip side to the persona the viewer grows used to seeing. Perhaps it is the way the subject stands, or being caught applying lip gloss moments before hitting the stage, Bond enlightens our understanding the of fashion and celebrity world’s with the frankness and speed of his unrestricted lens.

When he is not spending time with the world’s hottest models, Bond is a hugely in demand editorial photographer and works for GQ, Elle, Tatler and Vanity Fair amongst others.

Visit his online portfolio and see more of his beautiful photographs of some of the most famous and prominent Hollywood stars:
